Applicant Process for Employment
Non-Police & Non-Fire
Procedure
Procedure for all non-police and non-fire applicants:
- Applications are reviewed by the Human Resource Department to ensure applicant meets the minimum qualifications.
- If an applicant meets the minimum qualifications then a basic computer check on the applicant’s driver license is conducted.
- If the applicant’s driver license check meets the minimum standards then the applicant may be called in for a preliminary interview.
- Applicant may receive a conditional offer of employment.
- Applicant is fingerprinted.
- A background investigation of the applicant is conducted.
- Applicant may be scheduled for a polygraph exam.
- Applicant may be scheduled for a physical exam.
- A final interview with the applicant is conducted.
- The applicant may receive a final offer of employment.

Minimum Requirements
For all job postings (other than police and fire departments)
Minimum requirements to apply:
- At least 18 years of age
- Clear driver’s license
- High school graduate or GED
- Honorable discharge from military service
- Less than three moving violations within the last year.
- Less than two accidents within the last year
- Not convicted of any felony
- Not convicted of a misdemeanor A or B within the last ten years
- Not on probation.

Fire Department
Procedure
Procedure for Fire Department Applicant:
- Application reviewed by the Fire Chief to ensure applicant meets the minimum qualifications.
- If an applicant meets the minimum qualifications then a basic computer check on the applicant’s driver license is conducted.
- If the applicant’s driver license check meets the minimum standards then the applicant may be called in for a preliminary interview.
- Applicant may be scheduled for a physical agility test.
- Applicant may receive a conditional offer of employment.
- Applicant is fingerprinted.
- A background investigation of the applicant is conducted.
- Applicant may be scheduled for a polygraph exam
- Applicant may be scheduled for a physical exam.
- A final interview with the applicant is conducted.
- The applicant may receive a final offer of employment.
Requirements
For all fire service postings and volunteer service.
Minimum requirements for fire service positions:
- At least 18 years of age
- Clear driver’s license
- High school graduate or GED
- Honorable discharge from military service
- Less than three moving violations within the last year.
- Less than two accidents within the last year
- Not been convicted of a DWI / DUID with the last ten years.
- Not convicted of any felony
- Not convicted of a misdemeanor A or B within the last ten years
- Not on probation.
- US Citizen
Police Department
Procedure
Procedure for police department applicant:
- Application reviewed by the Police Chief to ensure applicant meets the minimum qualifications.
- If an applicant meets the minimum qualifications then a basic computer check on the applicant’s driver license is conducted as well as a criminal history check.
- If the applicant’s driver license check meets the minimum standards then the applicant may be called in for a preliminary interview.
- Applicant may be scheduled for a written test.
- If the applicant passes the written test then the applicant may progress to the physical agility test.
- If the applicant passes the physical agility test the applicant may proceed to the Oral board.
- If the applicant passes the oral board the applicant may receive a conditional offer of employment.
- Applicant is fingerprinted and the applicant receives the personal history portion of the application.
- A background investigation of the applicant is conducted.
- Applicant may be called in for an assessment board.
- Applicant may be scheduled for a polygraph exam.
- Applicant may be scheduled for a physical exam.
- Applicant may be scheduled for a psychological exam.
- A final interview with the applicant is conducted.
- The applicant may receive a final offer of employment.
Requirements
For all law enforcement postings.
Minimum requirements for police department positions:
- At least 18 years of age
- Clear driver’s license
- High school graduate or GED
- Honorable discharge from military service
- Less than three moving violations within the last year.
- Less than two accidents within the last year.
Not been convicted of a DWI / DUID with the last ten years. - Not convicted of any felony
- Not convicted of a misdemeanor A or B within the last ten years
- Not on probation.
- Police Officer course and licensing
- TCLEOSE license not revoked.
- US Citizen
